"Well. I prefer the water. Do something usefull Habano, please" Daybreak muttered, extinhusing a fire wolf with the water he had drawn in.

"Oh, y-yes, sir." Habano looked around for something to fight the wolves with.

"Use puddles" Daybreak mouthed

Habano nodded and leaped into a deeper puddle and extingushed a few wolves.
"We need to get back to the Captin," called one fire wolf.
The other fire wolves turned and ran into the sky.

Daybreak turned to Habano.
"Sort yourself out and we'll set after them"

Habano grinned. "Yes, Daybreak." He shook his fur dry and jumped out of the puddle. "Ready when you are."

Daybreak nodded.
"You know I won't just let you die" With that, he took off.

Habano flew after him.

He skidded along the rough track, the sound of the monsters behind him. The sound of something clicking echoed around his mind, and he prepared for pain shooting through his chest, the haunting screech of his mother, his mate, his pup's cry, as a widening light blocked his vision. Only one screech filled his mind - his own cry as his mother convulsed beside him and fell to the rocks, the grating sound and and dust bringing tears to his eyes. Her blood coated her pretty silver coat with crimson.

'Come on!' his mate cried, her teeth gritted around the scruff of a little ball of fur, Fell. Ignoring his instincts to fall to the ground and cry over his mother's body, he reminded himself of Fell, the pup in his own jaws, Feather, and his mate, Moon's lives. They were still at stake. He lead them up a thin ridge, a creek's mournful gurgle the only sound. he stole a peek back. One human pointed at his mothers body, obviously the alpha, and one of them leapt off his horse, pulling something shiny out of his pocket.

Feather squealed as cold water wet her fur, and the alpha locked eyes with his own. He lifted his gun, and several things happened at once.

Feather was switched to the ground, and he leapt from the ledge, jaws open, saliva dripping from his maw. A small pup squealed behind him, and something struck his chest. He gave a small moan and was thrown back. His mate screamed, and he turned his gaze to her. Her face was twisted in shock. But not at him. He'd been hit, yes. But the side of her face was flowing with blood, the explosion like a rose over her eye.

He gave a wail as the alpha approached, brandising a gun. he bent down, his leathered fingers only centimetres from Fell's neck. He pulled his knife, and slowly, he drew it along Fell's throat. He did the same with Feather. He gave a small whimper. The alpha locked his eyes for a second time. They were drawn, red with sleeplessness and pain, guilt and something else the male could not place.

'I'm sorry.' He mumbled, lifting the male wolf's head so he could look into the infinatly more intelligent blue eyes with his own, muddy brown ones. For a fleeting moment, the male thought he was going to spare his life. How cruel living without Feather, Fell or Moon would be.

Thankfully, he rose the black gun barrel to the male's head, his gloved finger squeezing the tigger, and everything went black

Ash opened his eyes. Everything hurt. His heart was shattered into tiny peices, remembering his pups, and his mate. Oh god, he missed her so much. Asleep on the cold ground, the wingless wolf sighed, his chest panging.

He hated the alpha more than anything. Not only did he kill his mate, but he had the further cruelty to let him live. The thought that he should have died scoured his mind like a flame, dancing and mocking him in his mind. He gave a cry of desperation and got to his paws, crying like a pup after hurting his paw.

The thought he should get moving entered his mind, and he padded softly away, still sobbing.

Kooneria flew down in front of the wolf.
"Who goes there?" she growled, blocking his way.

"A miserable wolf about to commit suicide." He sniffed.

(Ash is a wingless wolf. He is just a wolf.)

Kooneria looked shocked.
"Why would you need to do this?" she asked. "As much as I wish to defend this place of mine, it is no desire of mine to know that a fellow wolf has taken their life..."

"Humans." He mumbled. "Killed my mate and pups in front of me, then refused to kill me! I've pretty much been a pet to the alpha of the pack of humans. I wanted them to kill me!"

Kooneria looked at him slowly. "Why should you kill yourself then? You might be sad, but it's just giving in to the humans... Life is precious and it only happens once. If something goes wrong, don't make it worse, fix it!" She grinned that warm grin that she had imherited from her dad.

"I would, but without Moon and Feather and Fell my life really isn't anything, not worth living."

"You have to keep their memory alive," persisted Kooneria. "You can't just die. Whatever struggles they've gone through, whatever dreams they've gone through, they would have put their hopes in you!" she smiled again and bounded round to the front of the older wolf. She probably looked more like a puppy than ever to him, which in truth, she still logically was, though the flash of her eyes showed that her depressed way of thinking had long since been overturned.

"I never saw Fell or Feather like Moon did. They could do no wrong in her eyes. In all truth, it's Feather's fault they are all dead!" He struck a rock, sending it sailing through the air.

"Do you want to tell me what happened?" asked Kooneria, sitting down. "Sometimes telling others takes a load off your shoulders, right?"

Ash nodded numbly.

"It was a cold night exactly a winter and a half ago. My dear Moon had given birth to five pups. one stillborn, and who died to the cold. The other two were Feather and Fell - the strongest and the weakest of the litter.

I was out playing with the pair in the snow, when Feather went missing. I searched around and her wailing led us to her. A human had her, holding her by her back leg and jabbing her stomach. Three wolves died attempting to retrieve her. I took her to the remaining clan members - My mother, another elder, Moon and Fell. We led them away while the pack protected us. The other elder, a female called Beam, collapsed and died in the snow. So it was just Mother, Moon and the pups.

Mother was the first one to be shot by the humans. I led them up to a ledge, where Feather got splashed with water. She wailed again. The human shot me in the chest, killed Moon and the pups. Then the human came to me to finish me off. I-i-i believed he had. But no. He just knocked me out and kept me as a pet. I don't know why.

Kooni felt herself padding over and giving the wolf a friendly nudge to help cheer him up.
"I do not know if you are aware, but you have entered the land of the winged wolves. All of the wolves here have wings. I must admit I am surprised to see a wolf of your kind here. I am Kooneria, alphess of the Sunwood pack." she paused.
"Similarly, we were also attacked by humans, just after I was born. My mother lost lots of her friends and her friends and mate lost their families. You are not alone." she comforted him.

Ash smiled. "I suppose I can start a new life."

Kooneria smiled. "You can come back with me to Sunwood if you wish." she offered.

"Thanks." He smiled. "So, is there plenty of prey?"
