without a purpose

In the dying light of the dusk, bird song was dying down for a more sinister vibe - the scurrying of larger, predatory animals had begun - those like the fox and the owl had taken the night in their stride - the night was rightfully theirs and there they would belong. Wolves, too, were often creatures of the night, prefering the cover of darkness to stalk their prey. Most wolves lived in those clans - high and mighty, they were, believing themselves to own any part of land they set foot on. They were barbarians at times, forcing those who were passing through or hungry away, even, sometimes, killing them.

Perhaps that was why Sindari's mother had chosen the life of a loner of that of a clan wolf - but, to force that upon her daughter wasn't the most loving thing she could have done. Now, nearing her second winter, Sin was full grown - her blue-black pelt with white and purple markings, and her bright, bright wings - she stood out in the light of day - both her darkness and lightness gave her away in plain sight - but, in the night, she felt free, alive. She felt like she had a purpose. Without a purpose, there was no point to live, to take up space, to use up the air she breathed, to kill the creatures she had to eat to survive.

With a slight spring in her step, Sin roamed the Dark Plain in the night hours - it was hers then, no stupid idiots to come and tell her to leave because it was 'their patch'. It riled her up, most of the time. Sin felt so angry and useless when another wolf said 'This is my patch'. Had she not held her temper all those times, there would be a few dead loners or clan wolves about.

Sin stopped dead in her tracks. She could smell something - a rat. She lick her snout - Sin felt like she hadn't eaten in months. She pricked her ears around her skull, trying to pin-point the creature. It was ahead of her, a few metres. With large, round yellow eyes, they fixed upon a brown shape, furry, breathing. It was sleeping - a stupid place to sleep, but, it was food nonetheless. It didn't take much to kill it. A sharp bite around it's neck made it squeak in dispair, realising it had made a sorry mistake for sleeping there. Then, it was dead, laying at the paws of the blue-black wolfess. Tonight, she would dine.
